Does this class meet the requirements to be a mediator in my state?

What this class definitely covers in your state:

Private practice is not regulated in any state. If you want to open your own mediation practice within a community or client base you know, this class will teach you the basics to begin mediating, and give you both practice tips and suggestions for advanced topics to study.

What this class probably covers in your state:

This class meets almost every standard for training for “Basic Mediation Training” or similar requirements standard we have found, and usually qualifies for “General Civil Mediation” or community mediation rosters. The kinds of cases you would likely be eligible to apply to mediate include civil lawsuits, small claims, landlord-tenant, and neighborhood disputes (varies by state).

What about “almost”? A handful of states require state-specific information about laws, rules, ethics and procedures in that state. Every state that I’ve analyzed that does require state-specific information has a process to get that information if you’ve taken an out-of-state course.

What this class definitely does not cover in your state:

This is not a Family Law/Domestic Relations training. Most states require a specific training in the laws, policies, and procedures of family law in order to mediate divorce, custody, and parenting time disputes. However, most of the family law mediation trainings require a basic mediation training first, and this class is likely to meet that prerequisite.
