Private Mediation

There are no requirements to accept private clients as a mediator. Erin’s class will teach you all the basics to begin mediating, including recommendations for advanced topics you should consider in your private practice.

Civil Case Court Rosters

Illinois courts each establish their own mediator qualifications (Supreme Court Rule 905). Many Illinois courts only have family law mediation panels, though some may have civil mediation panels. I’ve surveyed a few of the largest counties:

  • Cook County has a civil mediation program, applicants must be attorneys. (Circuit Court of Cook County Rule 20.08)

  • DuPage County has a panel of mediators for residential eviction cases. Attorneys are preferred, but others may be appointed at the discretion of the judge (Local Court Rules 14.26). Mediation training is also at the discretion of the judge. Erin has applied for approval.

Community Mediation Centers (CMC)

  • Each Community Mediation Center establishes it’s own training requirements. There is no statewide list of all of them. If you find your local center and want me to apply for approval, email me.
