Private Mediation
There are no requirements to accept private clients as a mediator. Erin’s class will teach you all the basics to begin mediating, including recommendations for advanced topics you should consider in your private practice.
Government-Connected Mediation
Ohio has several governmental mediation programs in the courts, schools, and other government agencies. All those programs use training standards outlined by the Supreme Court Commission on Dispute Resolution’s Training Program Standards. Erin’s course exceeds the requirements for “The Fundamentals of Mediation” except for the Ohio-specific information, which appears to be available through OhioCourtEDU. I have applied for approval.
As in other states, additional specialized training is required for many of the programs, including domestic relations, child protection, elder, parenting coordination, and school attendance.
