Voluntary Certification
The Washington Mediation Association offers voluntary certification. Erin’s class exceeds the requirements for Basic Mediation Training.
Private Mediation
There are no requirements to accept private clients as a mediator. Erin’s class will teach you all the basics to begin mediating, including recommendations for advanced topics you should consider in your private practice.
Court Rosters:
Washington’s courts each determine their own standards. RCW 26.09.015 allows (but does not require) superior courts to make mediation available in family law cases. However, many courts appear to partner with local Dispute Resolution Centers, which do have statewide standards (see below)
Dispute Resolution Centers (DRC)
Erin’s class appears to exceed the requirements, but you should check your local DRC about whether they accept external trainings.
