Private Mediation
There are no requirements to accept private clients as a mediator. Erin’s class will teach you all the basics to begin mediating, including recommendations for advanced topics you should consider in your private practice.
Court Rosters:
Pennsylvania’s only mediator requirements are for custody mediators. Each court establishes its own rules, but they all use the Minimum Qualifications established in 231 Pa. Code r. 1940.4. Erin’s is applying for approval.
The Pennsylvania Council of Mediators (a nonprofit voluntary organization) recommends 22 hours of mediation training. Erin’s course exceeds that recommendation.
Community Mediation Centers
Erin’s class appears to exceed the requirements, but you should check your local CMC about whether they accept external trainings.
